Our Mission

Today's Youth Matter exists to serve vulnerable children in the San Francisco Bay Area. TYM fulfills its vision of transforming kids' lives through high impact experiences, summer and winter camps, and year-round adult mentors.

TYM's goal is to replace old memories with new memories.

Who We Are

TYM was founded 25 years ago when founder Marilyn Siden moved to California in 1989 after serving vulnerable children with a program in Oregon. Today's Youth Matter was born out of both her personal heart's desire and a number of others with the same heart for children and a real need in the Bay Area.

How We Impact the World

Our Work in Children

In over twenty-five years serving vulnerable children, we have learned that our niche is with small groups of children we get to know very well. Either in small groups or one-on-one. We have observed over the years that for maximum healing to take place, we must be willing to invest a lot of hours into a child on a close intimate basis.

TYM serves five vulnerable populations:

  1. Children exposed to domestic violence,
  2. Victims of child abuse and neglect,
  3. Youth-in and aging-out of the foster care system,
  4. Youth & family are homeless,
  5. Children with an incarcerated or deported parent

Many of these children and youth grow up under conditions, such as chronic ill health or poverty, which expose them to risky and traumatic situations. As a result, these populations are clearly at-risk for negative outcomes. At the same time, many of the children and families served by TYM are considered to be in-risk because they have already experienced one or more negative outcomes: homelessness, abuse and neglect, exposure to domestic violence, incarcerated parents, and placement in out-of-home care.
